October is Manufacturing Month in Wisconsin! This was kicked off on October 5th with many area manufacturers offering plant tours to the public. We were honored to host Hamilton High School students and teachers, North Lake Middle School Project Lead the Way students, parents and teachers, Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson and several community members at our Sussex and Grafton plants. What a great opportunity to showcase what we do at Waukesha® Metal Products and how manufacturing plays an important role in our economy. The best part of the day was seeing the interest and excitement in the eyes of the young people that toured our plants. They observed what a modern factory looks like today, and I think they walked away with a better understanding of career opportunities in manufacturing.Their questions were engaging and thoughtful. I was also quite impressed with the teachers that lead these groups. They too, were energetic and clearly thoughtful, caring individuals with the students best interests in mind! We all need to thank our teachers for what they do to educate and mentor our students. Manufacturing month is only a beginning from a marketing perspective. Successful manufacturers take the lead and partner with their local K12 school systems, technical colleges and universities to engage our future talent. We share responsibility in assisting in the preparation of our young people by providing career planning information aligned with a students academic plan. And most importantly, we have to provide those careers filled with opportunity! America was built on innovation and manufacturing. It is good to celebrate manufacturing again in the United States.
