Job Purpose: Lead tool design process to support and expand company’s metalforming capabilities and related manufacturing processes.

Essential Job Functions:
• Work directly with Engineering, Toolroom, and Program Management to design stamping dies, gages, fixtures, and related equipment for in-plant use
• Evaluate and perform strip layouts and quotes for tooling and production, based on given set of inputs
• Utilize 2D/3D Cad and formability software as required for quotes/feasibility/design
• Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, production equipment, and environmental impact
• Study existing tooling and methods to increase design capabilities
• Act as a technical resource for customers and assist in addressing and resolving questions and concerns related to product design and manufacturability
• Maintain and update drawing files
• Follow all company policies and procedures as applicable to position
• Specify, order, and perform follow-up for tooling and related support equipment
• Estimate costs and delivery of tooling and equipment
• Analyze the causes and effects of major tooling difficulties, and develop recommendations and action plans for solutions
• Assist the Tool Room, Maintenance, and any outside vendor sources in updating and training for tooling or tool-related production equipment, document actions and results
• Assist Sales Department to determine manufacturing feasibility for product design and cost reduction programs
• Understand and follow health, safety, security, quality, and environmental practices

Non-Essential Job Functions:
• Provide reports as needed
• Stay current in new development in the industry
• Travel maybe required
• Other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as requested by the Vice President or other member of management

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Degree and/or certificate in Tool Design and/or Tool and Die
• Toolmaker/Engineering background preferred
• Proficient using Solidworks software for design, Logopress Die Design software experience also preferred, as well as formability software
• 5 years minimum designing progressive stamping dies, fixtures, and related tooling

Abilities, Skills and Knowledge:
• Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, including GD&T specifications
• Apply experience related to manufacturability for product and tool designs
• Effective communication skills with customers, vendors, and co-workers
• Ability to lead and assist in launch of new tooling projects
• Thorough understanding of metal forming process, techniques, and material properties
• Self-motivated
• Effectively work as team
• Analytical thinking
• Detail oriented
• Ability to work under specified timelines

Physical Demands:
• Requires sitting, intermittent standing, and walking
• Regularly required to talk and hear
• Occasionally required to reach above shoulders, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch
• Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls

Training Requirements:
• Training requirements as applicable to the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System

Work Environment:
• Primary work is performed in engineering office
• Noise level in the manufacturing environment is loud
