Job Purpose:  The welder uses hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill, holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Essential Job Functions:
• Operates equipment safely and uses safe work habits while performing his job function
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arc by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
• Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective material and notifies supervisor
• Clamps, holds, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolts component parts to obtain required configuration and positions for welding
• Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding
• Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts of warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials
• Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
• Follow all company policies and procedures as applicable to the position
• Follow all clean-up & housekeeping procedures (5S)
• Understand and follow health, safety, security, quality, and environmental practices

Non-essential Job Functions:
• Other tasks, duties , and responsibilities as requested by the Operations Manager or other member of management

Education and/or Experience:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent required/on the job training
• Fork Lift certification preferred

Abilities, Skills and Knowledge:
• Knowledge of gauges to check parts (micrometers, calipers, protractors and square)
• Basic shop math skills and high school level math
• Basic English
• Ability to read drawings
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers

Physical Demands:
• Requires standing, intermittent sitting, and walking
• Regularly required to talk and hear
• Occasionally required to reach above shoulders, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch
• Lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
• Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls

Training Requirements:
• Training requirements as applicable to the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System

Work Environment:
• Primary work is performed in manufacturing area
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud

Protective Equipment/Clothing Required:
• Ear plugs
• Safety glasses with side shields
• Steel toed safety shoes
• Company uniform
