Job Purpose:   Responsible for programming, setup, and operation of wire EDM machines, including troubleshoot and routine preventive maintenance. Secondary responsibilities include programming, setup, and operation of CNC machines as schedule allows.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Program, set-up and operate wire and Mitsubishi/Charmilles EDM equipment and monitor machines as jobs run
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other appropriate measuring tools to verify accuracy
  • Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece, the sequence of operations that will be used to machine the parts and the set-up requirements
  • Select appropriate fixtures, wire size, feed rates, cutting speed parameters, and sequence of operations to achieve the intended specification of the part
  • Program machine(s) using the information provided on a part drawing/cad files, using Mastercam software; may also include programming directly into the machine
  • Perform basic routine scheduled maintenance  on wire machines and stay current on preventive maintenance
  • Troubleshoot errors on machines
  • Order wire and other supplies as required
  • Schedule work to maximize time
  • Maintain programming files in proper order structure
  • Understand and follow health, safety, security, and environmental practices
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping (5S) procedures
  • Follow all company policies and procedures as applicable to position

Non-essential Job Functions:

  • Other tasks, duties and responsibilities as requested by the Toolroom Manager and/or Operations Manager

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Tool & Die maker Journeyman card with stamping die experience preferred
  • CAD/CAM software experience (Mastercam & Solidworks preferred)

Abilities, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to use measuring instruments, i.e. micrometer, calipers test sets, and gaging equipment
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerance, etc.
  • Basic math skills: add / subtract / multiply / divide
  • Ability to operate computer and working knowledge of typical office programs – i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to interpret drawings and related documents
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to collaborate with team members from various departments

Physical Demands:

  • Requires tolerance of standing up to 8 hours, intermittent sitting, and walking
  • Regularly requires to hear and talk
  • Occasionally required to reach above shoulders, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls

Training Requirements:

  • Training requirements as applicable to the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System

Work Environment:

  • Primary work is performed in the tool room
  • Noise level in the manufacturing is loud

Protective Equipment/Clothing required:

  • Steel-toed work shoes
  • Ear plugs
  • Safety glasses with side shields
  • Company uniforms
