Job Purpose:  Responsible for performing daily machine operation of wire cutting and wire processing equipment in the Wire Room. Includes programming, operation, set-up, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Set-Up and operate wire and Mitsubishi/Charmilles EDM equipment and monitor machines as jobs run
  • Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls to bring work tolerance back into tolerance
  • Mark dimensions and features on materials or work pieces and guides for additional machining operations
  • Fit and assemble parts into complete assembly using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools
  • Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece, the sequence of operations that will be used to machine the parts and the set-up requirements
  • Select appropriate fixtures, wire size, feed rates, cutting speeds and sequence of operations to achieve the intended specification of the part
  • Program wire EDM machine(s) using the information provided on a part drawing or using CAD/CAM software. This would include programming directly into the machine
  • Perform basic maintenance (hourly & daily) on wire machines and stay current on preventive maintenance
  • Troubleshoot errors on machines
  • Order wire and other supplies as required
  • Schedule work to maximize time
  • Understand and follow health, safety, security, and environmental practices
  • Follow all clean-up and housekeeping (5S) procedures
  • Follow all company policies and procedures as applicable to position

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Requires a high school diploma, or equivalent
  • Tool & Die maker Journeyman card preferred
  • CAD/CAM software experience a plus

Abilities, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to use measuring instruments, i.e. micrometer, calipers test sets, and gaging equipment
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerance, etc.
  • Ability to operate computer and working knowledge of typical office programs – i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Understanding of drawings and related documents
  • Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers
  • Ability to collaborate with team members from various departments

Physical Demands:

  • Requires tolerance of standing up to 8 hours, intermittent sitting, and walking
  • Regularly requires to hear and talk
  • Occasionally required to reach above shoulders, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls

Training Requirements:

  • Training requirements as applicable to the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System

Work Environment:

  • Primary work is performed in the tool room
  • Noise level in the manufacturing is loud

Protective Equipment/Clothing required:

  • Steel-toed work shoes
  • Ear plugs
  • Safety glasses with side shields
  • Company uniforms
