Essential Job Functions

• Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
• Manage outsourced functions
• Lead, manage and create accountability for the operations of the accounting department. Provide suggestions for improvement for the design of an organizational structure so that it is adequate for achieving the department’s and the company’s goals and objectives
• Provide oversight of the accounting operations of subsidiaries, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures
• Maintain financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
• Maintain financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

• Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
• Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
• Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
• Ensure that payroll is processed in a timely and accurate manner
• Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed and available for review by the CFO as required
• Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
• Maintain the chart of accounts
• Maintain an orderly accounting filing system to meet the timeliness and accuracy goals of stakeholders and audit requirements
• Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

• Issue timely and complete financial statements
• Coordinate with auditors for the preparation of the corporate annual report
• Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
• Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
• Contribute to the production of the annual budget and forecasts
• Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management and provide analysis regarding causes and corrections to deviations from performance
• Provide for a system of management cost reports
• Provide financial support for analyses as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations

• Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit and tax preparers
• Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Education and/or Experience
The controller candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience. Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.

Working Conditions
Primarily in an office environment. Will be expected to travel as needed to company subsidiaries, as well as to potential acquirees to conduct due diligence. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected.
